And Now for Something Completely Different

Meet Sophie, Charlie's sister. His real sister, as in littermate.

Sophie on her air vent

I've just returned from a trip though Indiana with my siblings, seeing the old homesteads and visiting the old haunts. While there, I got to spend a few days with Sophie and with her mom, our good friend Karen. And I got to meet Stephanie, the woman who bred Charlie & Sophie's litter, raised them for the first 8 weeks or so, and still has their mom Abby.

Sophie (right) and her best friend Steeler

Upon meeting Sophie, the resemblance to Charlie was striking. Because just like Charlie, Sophie squints and smiles (while wagging vigoously) when she's really happy to see someone.

They have the same look to their face and similar smiles. Both have below-the-ears unruly flyaway (but I mean that in a good way) ear hair. They both paw. A lot. Both are constantly hungry, not bothering to chew in their haste to wolf down food. And both carefully cultivate a serious mournful stare which they milk for all it's worth.

Sophie, working it

Unlike Charlie, however, Sophie is a licky dog, and she loves to give dog kisses. Also unlike Charlie, she doesn't drool, and she's not bitey. Until you rev her up... then, watch out... yep, just like Charlie.

Sophie on her deck

Like Charlie, Sophie is completely "glued" to her mom (and vice-versa) and follows her everywhere. I tried to convince her to come home with me, but I don't think she was even tempted.

What a GREAT thing. I always wonder about Duncan's family. In fact, each time we run into a Golden who is as dark as he is, and as small, I wonder if they're somehow related. And I wonder if animals can smell that sort of thing, a similar genetic make-up or if they recognize it from the first eight weeks of their lives. Having first-hand experience with his litter-mate seems an incredible experience. I'm so happy for you!

Charlie,
Sophie is a cutie pie! I see where you get your good looks and lovely fur color. Charlie, I live very close to Indiana. My mommy lived the first 17 years of her life there. Sounds like you had lots of fun on your trip!

Kisses,
Sami

Where at in Indiana, and if you say Northern Indiana then I shall totally freak out as the human woman hails from up there and keeps telling me that there's a law that says she is required to watch the Indy 500... is that true?

Gee, at 1st I thought you were bluffing coz Sophie looks exactly like Charlie! Except that her face is a little more of a girl face...Did Charlie get to meet his dog family?

It's such a wonderful thing that you got to meet with Charlie's littermate! Me and my mom have always wondered what happened to my littermates (there are 3 of us, 2 boys and a girl) after we moved back from Melbourne to Singapore.
Isn't it so fun to spot all the similarities?!!

How thrilling to meet your sister, Charlie. She's very pretty and seems as nice as you. I get to see my sister Rose a lot but none of my other littersibs. Hope you two can visit each other often.
