Approach Avoidance

There are workmen in the house mounting a new TV on the wall, and Charlie is alternately intrigued by them...

... and freaked by the sound of their reciprocating saw making cutouts in the plywood shear wall.

Whenever I leave the room, he stays close by my side, jockeying to keep me between him and the scary noises, for example, as I try to work in the kitchen.

Poor guy -- it's probably time for some extra treats!

For future situations like this, you should also consider going to your local organic pet store and picking up some Valerian root. It works wonders on Duncan. Good stuff without any nasty side-effects. But it doesn't taste very good. TRUST ME! I've tried it. BLAH!

Valerian works pretty well. I use the capsules sometimes when I can't sleep. But they smell pretty nasty so I keep the jar in a ziplock bag. They also make me burp a lot and that isn't fun!

Hi Charlie! I understand how you feel. I'm only 4 weeks old and I am scared of EVERYTHING (right now at least). My mom has been reading your blog and you have inspired her to create one for me so I can have some animal friends! I hope we can be friends and follow each other's blog. Mine is www.goldenscarlett.blogspot.com. You look like you have lots of fun! I look forwarding to hearing more about all the fun you have!

Hey Charlie, here are some suggestions next time those scary workmen show up:
- pretend they are postal workers
- insist they turn on Animal Planet the minute they leave
- when one of them bends down to use the noisy saw, drop a half chewed bully stick in their plumber's crack

....or better yet, stay close to yer Mom, we think you got that one down pat.
