Introducing "Joey"

You may recall that it was with some trepidation on my part that Charlie met Roo. Like many dogs, Charlie enjoys taking apart his toys. However, he rarely stops there. Rather, he consumes them. Cloth, stuffing, rope... regardless of how unappealing it seems to a human, it all goes down Charlie's gullet. And then hopefully out the other end (although, as Curt knows too well, that part's not a sure bet).
Puppy Charlie, prior to the first toy "incident"
(which netted him a day at the vet's)

So when Roo arrived, I tried to be very careful. At first Charlie only had well-supervised visits. Then, as he demonstrated his trustworthiness, I relaxed. Thought he'd grown up. Grew complacent. Took for granted that nothing would happen, and allowed Roo to freely roam the house on his own.

Initially it was kind of minor - a detached nose. Well, that could happen to anyone, right? And he didn't swallow the nose. But then... then... one night, watching a video, I noticed Charlie holding Roo down with his paws and pulling at him with his teeth. And when I went over to inspect, Roo was missing his right ear - there was just a stub where it had been. And, worse, the ear was nowhere to be found!

So Roo went back to live on the mantel between play dates. And I began to avoid Roo posts, embarrassed that Charlie wasn't quite as grown-up as I'd portrayed and that I'd let such a lovely present be eaten.

But Brooke and Greg and Charlie and Opy of Dogs with Blogs, who originally sent Roo, found out. And a new package arrived in the mail last week. So, thanks again, Brooke & Greg, and without further ado... everyone meet Joey:

"For me? Really??"

Helping

"Hmmmm... what's in here?"

"C'mon outta there!"

"I'll put you down now & then give you the tour."

"...and this is the living room..."

"...and this is my friend, Roo..."

Charlie and Joey

Happy (supervised) family ;)

Hello Roo.. HELLO!! Can you hear us??!!

Actually Hershey's the same like Charlie.. she devours her toys (and they come out from the other end a day or 2 later).. once she swollowed my small plastic ball and after a few hours, she regurgitated the whole punctured ball. Puppies are funny sometimes.. for older dogs like me, I prefer something more digestable! :P

Those are both very nice pals for Charlie. Dawson like to eat the toys also. We have many stuffies missing different parts. The one that has done the best is a Jack Sparrow doll from McDonalds. Go figure. It is always an adventure on poo pick up trips to see what he has eaten this time.

I hope Joey lives a long, happy and intact life!

How strange. I don't eat toys at all. I play with them for a little while and then I leave them alone. I usually go to sleep on them because playing is tiring.

Loved the photographs. Our Ellie loved to play with her soft toys until one day she found a seam. Having discovered the joy of destruction, she systematically destroyed all her soft toys.

Fortunately she doesn't eat any parts, but she can destroy any cloth toy in minutes.

wow, what a great looking dog you are!!! Don't feel bad Charlie, I like to play rough with my toys too. I just can't resist tugging on their ears, the best part is my when my toys get to the point where they have to be discarded, my owners always come home with new ones!! Wonder if they will ever catch on?!Please come check out my blog, www.mygoldendogblog.blogspot.com Thanks, Miley

Oh Charlie, I have a basket full of stuffies that I have loved up and left. I would be happy to send you a secret package that you can disembowel when no one is looking.

Ah, you have perfectly described the life-cycle of every one of Duncan's playmates. Almost none have ears or tails, most are missing noses, several are amputees, and a few should be put out of their misery (I just can't bring myself to do it, though because when I do take them out for a visit, Dunc's face lights up like he's been reunited with a long lost friend). I've found that if I gently remind him to play nice, he'll move from nibbling to licking and the toys last MUCH longer. But every stuffed toy gets put up on the shelf when I leave because I don't want a repeat of The Great Yarn Crisis!
