His head goes one direction. His front paws go the other direction. And his back legs go the direction of his head. It looks contorted and uncomfortable, but it's always the position of choice.
When he wants to make sure he can see what's going on, he goes for the flattened frog position ...
And late late at night, when he's totally relaxed and fast asleep, he'll roll on his back and stick all four paws in the air.
