Brushy, Brushy, Brushy

I don't understand why Charlie sheds in August. Why does he blow his coat every year just a few months away from winter? Just before he really needs it? I will never understand. I think he's an Aussie dog in disguise.

At any rate, this time of year we start nightly brushing. It keeps some of the fluff off the rug, but more importantly it keeps Charlie from biting himself too much -- because apparently blowing his coat itches.

Charlie is a little approach-avoidance about the whole thing. He races to the closet when I say "want to brush? let's go get your brush!" and then presents his rear for brushing. But he also keeps his chompers at the ready, just in case I should encounter an ouchy snag or try to brush out his tail. Both of which are verboten to me. Upon pain of teeth.

With Pipa it's the exact same thing! She often starts shedding whenever the weather changes. Apparently they don't shed twice a year; they shed whenever weather's instable. It's so tough... there's fur all over!
But one thing's for sure: Charlie is such an handsome and clever boy!

We only shed when we get stressed out, but we don't really get a thick coat because we don't really have a winter!

We get haircuts every 6 weeks, but there is still fur all over the place. Edgar the cat bites the crazy old bat if she tries to brush him more than he likes. Maybe Charlie is practicing to be like Edgar.

I don't have long hair but I like to be brushed sometimes! And like Charlie... not all parts of my body!

We've been embarassed with some of the pictures taken of Sam - there seems to be so much hair everywhere! Even when we just vacuumed! Ah, well, all the brushing is good therapy for Mom and Sam.

LOL.. yes I think Charlie is really an Aussie doggie in disguise.. just need to get him to understand that now he'd need to keep his fur on since winter in the US is not the same time as winter in AUS!

He's got beautiful, shiny fur!!

I love it! That looks like a good brush. Africa crouches down and acts like I am beating her. I would love it if someone brushed my hair.

I hear ya! I seem to bee shedding all year too! My dad is quite anoid with this as when they adopted me the lady said I never shed! Tee-hee the joke was on my daddy. But he loves me still!

I challenge you for the OOPS I ATE IT award:"When accepting this award, you must blog about the food you have stolen when your humans were not watching. If you have never stolen any food, you must have been a really good pup! You can accept this yummy tray of cookies as your reward! Next add the logo of this award to your blog (optional), then nominate at least 5 other furry blogs and let them know by leaving a message on their blogs."

Hugs & smooches xoxo

Good for Charlie. I need to be a better master when it comes to brushing Lucy. She does not enjoy it especially around the potty trial or her tail. I can't imagine why? You're looking good.

Moose goes through bouts of shedding that seem totally random and unrelated to weather or stress (though he will shed and flake when stressed). I have heard that their summer coat is different than their winter coat so they have to shed it so that the winter coat can come in. Not sure if that is true but kinda makes sense!
You are very handsome though whatever you are wearing!

I had thought from the top photos he had just come from the groomers. I admire your discipline and Charlie's tolerance.
