Charlie is Grounded!

After watchful waiting to see if he'd get better on his own, yesterday I took Charlie to the vet.

A little over a week ago, Charlie quit jumping. He quit climbing on me to sing, quit jumping on the bed to sleep, and quit leaping the terraces to explore and hunt kitty poo. Worse, he quit being able to easily climb stairs - a problem in a house built into a hillside. Especially when your mom can't carry you!

Despite the fact that he is getting a little better, and despite the fact that I'm getting used to having room to turn over in bed, he still couldn't climb stairs, so it was time to drag him to the vet. And I do mean drag --- the floors there are well-waxed or else I don't think we would have gotten him into the examining room.

Of course at the vet's Charlie was on his most perfect healthy-dog behavior. He jumped all over me. He trotted around. He went up and down stairs. X-rays showed no problems (whew!), but on probing, the doctor could detect some guarding in his left hip and knee.

So it's probably a soft tissue strain, good news I think. And the bad news for Charlie is, well, good news for me. Charlie is completely and utterly grounded. For two weeks. Two long weeks that he's only allowed outside long enough to do business on a leash. Two weeks he's not allowed to jump at all. Two more weeks of spacious restful sleep for me.

Whew! I'm glad it's nothing more serious! But, poor Charlie, cooped up inside all day. Better keep that car cover well guarded!

Hi Charlie...sorry you have a hurt hip or something. :( You should tell your Mom to buy some stairs so you can still get up in the bed without jumping. ;) I would make my Mom do that...BOL! Feel better soon.

Charlie, good to know you're feeling a little better but not great news about your hip. Hope it gets better soon though. Grounded for two weeks really sucks.

Hi Charlie,
I am Axel. I found your blog by way of Bogie's blog were my family went for their daily update on Klaus. We are sorry for your injury - last year I went lame for 30 hours and gave my parents a heart attack. They thought I'd pulled my knee too, but then I just got better and was totally fine...it was very strange!!
Anyway, good luck with your grounding. LOL
Thanks so much for helping Bogie and his mama during their hard times.

Hey again... I looked wayyy back to see what happened that got you grounded and apparently missed this post (duh!). I am so bummed to hear this. I do NOT want to worry you but this is exactly how Moose's torn CCL journey began (down to the clear xrays but guarding on the knee and hip). I only mention that to underline the importance of sticking with the 'grounded' rules. Not that you need to hear it from a random stranger, but as you mentioned he does not think he needs rest and that can make it challenging. Anywho... hang in there and Moose and I have paws crossed that 2 weeks rest and he will be good as new!
