The Postman Doesn't Have to Ring Twice

We've had various mail carriers; some have ignored Charlie and some have been afraid of him (in truth, he does sound like a police dog on the attack when he guards the house). But sometime this summer, a mail carrier arrived who likes him.

I think it started when the carrier had something to hand in through the door and, seeing Charlie babygated upstairs, asked to meet and pet him and give him a treat. Then, when we were out walking, he went out of his way to come over and pet Charlie, say nice things about him, and let him rummage for treats. Then at some point, whenever there was a package to be left by the door, he'd add a treat on top:

And now... oftentimes after the mailman's come and gone, look what's been left in the middle of the welcome mat:

What a great mail carrier!

Oh my! That is pawesome! You are one lucky boy! Do you still bark ferociously when you see him? Moose gives the same ferocious woofel when people he likes approach the house (with slightly more wagging) as he does when strangers approach. Still, you obviously have a great postman!
Thanks for the advice about water in the kibble. Just today the vet tech suggested that. It never occurred to me! He tends to drink a lot right after he eats so it may just mean he doesn't drink as much after but will have to try and see! Since he eats all of his meals out of the jug (to slow him down) it wont work but I may switch back to his bowl to give it a try- maybe at least for breakfast. If we go for more shorter walks he would probably drink more too but that would be harder for me to pull off. Have you ever tried chicken broth Vet tech also suggested finding some broth with very low sodium. Anyways, forgive the rambling and thanks for the suggestion!

Well I hate anyone making a delivery to our house. The mailman only goes to the letterbox out front but any packages are delivered round the back of the house. Well that's my domain and I guard it very well.
Your postie sounds very cool Charlie.

OHHH how sweet of your mail carrier! Tell mom she should tell the postmaster how nice the carrier is because those things go into their work files and can help them with bonuses! In these days of bad news, it would be nice for the post office to hear something good too!

Enjoy your treats!

Love,
S-Dog

Pee.S. We saw Dr. Boucher a few weeks ago. Mom had to take me in to the vet when my eyes were icky.

OMDog. How I wish I had your mailman! You are soooo lucky, man.

My mailman hates me, and I've never done anything! He even stopped delivering our mail all summer and tried to pepperspray me and called the animal control and threatened to sue, and all I did was bark at him. I wouldn't bite, would I? Good thing our mailman finally got too scared of the rest of the dogs in our neighborhood, and now he's gone. Maybe a dog finally killed him. Well now our new mailman isn't mean anymore, but he ignores me. I wish I had a mailman that gives me treats!

I hope you have a grrrrEAT day ahead!

Misty refuses to bark at the mailman and won't let the other dogs do it either. She knows by now that he just comes and goes and pays no attention to barking.

Charlie boy, you are so lucky you have such a nice mailman!!! We are totally jealous because our mailman thinks we are out to kill him... Hey we were only trying to be friendly! Oh well...

Do you think you can send your mailman to us sometime?? Those treats look good...

I've never met this person and I love him!!! Charlie would be a fool not to bump him to the top of his favorites list!

How fortunate and fun! I'm envious. I don't think we even have a mail carrier. I just assumed a squad of vicious gremlins forced our mail into the slot. I may have to investigate further!

Wow! You must be extra sweet to your postman that you were given a treat. Nothing like turning on the Golden charm. I hope you were able to go outside and eat that treat right away!

Holy Mackerel, you are lucky! My Portland Postman doesn't leave any treats. I'm going to write a customer complaint letter.

That is so sweet it actually put a lump in my throat. (the good kind) Thanks for sharing that there are still really thoughtful people out there. Even the mailman and dog can get along! Love it. I am off to chew another strap off my shoe and blame it on Africa. LOL
